BROOKE COUNTY, West Virginia — The Brooke County Board of Education has commemorated into the Brooke Athletic Hall of Fame two of the county's most well-known citizens.
Former Administrator Anthony Paesano and Coach Bud Billiard were both given the honor for the 2018 Hall of Fame Class. The two men were celebrated for their philanthropy for the school district.
They also had their names immortalized. The field at Brooke Memorial Stadium will now be known as Bud Billiard Field, and the district's scholarship program started by Paesano will be known as "The Anthony Paesano Brooke County Scholarship Foundation."
"In the end, we've impacted 4,000 students along the way. We're very proud of that, and I want to congratulate Coach Bud Billiard on his long-overdue endeavor. Believe me, man, you deserve it,” Paesano said.
"You kids don't know what you meant to me. You all meant something to me then; and more so now, and I’m finding out the time I spent with you then,” Billiard said. “You really got something out of it.”
Since it was started by Paesano, the scholarship fund has given out more than $1 million to graduating seniors. Billiard continues to help with Brooke Hills Park. Both men have been involved in the Wellsburg and Follansbee Chambers of Commerce.
