Jack Shaffer
The outstanding achievements of the Brooke Bruins football team in the 80s was noted not only by the induction of not only former head football coach Paul "Bud" Billiard and head principal Anthony Paesano but also with the inclusion of two great players of that period, Don Koscevic and Jack Shaffer.

Koscevic said he will always remember the tremendous support the team received from the community.
"The best fans are right here in Brooke County. I played in front of the best crowd you could have," said Koscevic, who as a defensive tackle, helped the Bruins to win the 1985 state championship and to become runners up for the 1986 state title.

For his efforts Koscevic was named to the OVAC All-Conference First Team his senior year. He went on to play for Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa Falls, Iowa and Western Illinois University, where he helped the Leathernecks to advance to the 1991 NCAA Division I AA playoffs.

Shaffer set a Super Six Bowl record for the most interceptions and was named Player of the
Week twice, First Team All-State and All-OVAC as well as receiving other honors.

Also on the Brooke baseball, basketball and wrestling teams, Shaffer went on to play football and baseball at West Liberty University, where he played on two conference championship teams and pitched for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics World Series.

He also was a regional and national Motocross champion.

Shaffer said he has great memories of his years at Brooke, calling them "a great time and a great place with great people."
